What Occupied City?’ is a looted audio essay by Pieter Blomme and Dennis Gaens, who ask themselves: who is in charge in the city these days? The suspects that pass in review: traffic signs, parked cars, men, ostrich politicians, architects and narrow-minded citizens. An essay and poetic manifesto in one, inspired by Bezette Stad, the legendary 100-year-old collection of poems by Paul van Ostaijen.
The hypotheses come from an international collection of creative makers, scientists and publicists: Fredo de Smet, Leslie Kern, Sonia Kazovsky, Simon Wilkinson, Kilian Flade, Barbara Callewaert, Myra Appannah, and Catherine Ongenae. With excerpts from poems by Maud Vanhauwaert, Jonathan Griffioen, Lisette Ma Neza (recommended by Misha Melita), Hind Eljadid (recommended by Corinne Heyrman) and Joost Oomen.
